Jackie Chan is famous, both in the West and in Asia. Before coming to America, he made his career in Hong Kong. His three American films, Shanghai Dawn, Rush Hour I and II, made Chan a Hollywood star. “Even now I am not sure they’re good,” he says, “because I still think in the Asian way. I make American films in the American way, and yes, they are successful in America. But in Asia, nobody goes to see them. They don’t understand the jokes and the action is terrible. My Asian films are successful in Asia, but they can’t be shown in America.”
